Why Choose Drain Ninja for Drain Emergencies
20+ years answering Miami emergency calls. Here's what sets us apart when things go wrong at 2 AM.
Master plumber on call
Every shift has a Florida-licensed master plumber available. Not an apprentice. Not a contractor. Someone with the experience to solve the problem the first time
Fully stocked emergency trucks
Our trucks carry the equipment needed for every common drain emergency. Hydro jetters. Augers. Cameras. Pumps. Root cutters. We don't have to leave to get parts.
No surprise pricing
Every emergency call gets a written quote before work starts. The number we quote is the number you pay.
Written guarantee on emergency work
Our emergency repairs come with the same warranty as scheduled work. If the same issue comes back from the same cause within the warranty period, we return at no charge.
Insurance-friendly documentation.
We provide detailed invoices, written diagnoses, and camera footage when applicable. This makes insurance claims faster and stronger.
Spanish-speaking dispatchers and technicians
A real concern for many Miami families. Our team handles emergencies in English and Spanish.
Family-owned and local
Calls go to our team, not a national call center. We've worked these neighborhoods for 20+ years. We know the housing stock, the soil conditions, the older plumbing systems.
What Causes a Drain to Clog?
Five causes account for most clogged drains in Miami homes.
For a deeper look at each cause, see our guide on why drains clog.
Grease
Hot cooking grease goes down the drain as liquid, then solidifies once it cools in the pipe. Layers build up until the line closes.
Hair
Combines with soap residue to form a dense mat that traps everything else moving through the drain.
Foreign objects
Wet wipes, feminine products, dental floss, food scraps, and small toys that shouldn't have gone down the drain in the first place.
Tree roots
Miami's tropical trees push roots into sewer lines through tiny cracks and joints, then grow rapidly once inside.
Mineral scale
Miami's hard water leaves calcium and magnesium deposits on pipe walls over time, narrowing the diameter until water can't pass
Types of Clogged Drains We Repair
Every drain in your home or business can clog differently. Here's how we handle each one.
Clogged Kitchen Sink
The most common call we get. Grease, food scraps, and garbage disposal buildup collect in the trap or the first section of pipe past the sink. Most kitchen sink clogs clear in 20-30 minutes with a properly sized snake.

Clogged Bathroom Sink
Hair, soap scum, and toothpaste residue build up in the narrow bathroom sink drain line. These clogs form slowly, so by the time water stops draining completely, the buildup has usually been accumulating for months.

Toilet Clogged
When a plunger doesn't work, the clog is past where a plunger can reach. Foreign objects, heavy paper buildup, and severe blockages need a closet auger or, in worse cases, main line diagnostics. Toilet clogs that keep coming back usually point to something further down the line.

Clogged Shower Drain
Hair is the primary cause, almost every time. It catches on the drain strainer or just past it, then traps soap residue and skin cells until the drain slows to a trickle.

Clogged Bathtub Drain
Similar causes to shower drains, but bathtub trip-lever and pop-up stopper mechanisms add another place for hair and debris to catch. Older mechanisms trap more than modern ones.

Clogged Main Sewer Line
When more than one drain backs up at the same time, the problem is almost always the main line, not an individual fixture. This is the most urgent type of clog we handle, since it affects every drain in the property until it's cleared.

Our Clogged Drain Repair Process
Here's exactly what happens from the moment you call.
1
Diagnostic
We ask what's happening, which fixtures are affected, and how long the problem has been going on. This tells us whether we're looking at a single-fixture clog or something bigger.
2
Method selection
Based on the diagnostic, we choose the right tool. Simple clogs get a hand snake. Tougher ones get a motorized auger. Severe blockages get hydro jetting.
3
Repair
We clear the blockage, working carefully to avoid damaging older pipe. Miami has a lot of aging cast iron and galvanized plumbing that needs a gentler touch than newer PVC.
4
Verification
We run water through the system to confirm full flow before we consider the job done. For main line work, we may run a camera to verify the line is fully clear.
Methods We Use to Clear
Clogged Drains

Drain Snaking
A flexible cable with a cutting head, fed directly down the drain to break up or pull out the blockage. This is the right tool for most everyday clogs hair, food waste, soft buildup especially within 25 feet of an access point.

Hydro Jetting
High-pressure water, up to 4,000 PSI, that blasts through grease, scale, and root debris a snake can't fully clear. Jetting also cleans the inside walls of the pipe instead of just punching a hole through the clog.

Camera Inspection
For clogs that keep coming back, we run a waterproof camera down the line to see exactly what's happening inside the pipe. This tells us whether we're dealing with a simple blockage or a structural problem like a crack, a break, or root intrusion.

How to Tell if You Need a Plumber for a Clogged Drain
Some clogs you can handle yourself. Others need a professional right away.
Try it yourself first if: only one drain is affected, water is draining slowly but still moving, and you haven’t already tried a chemical drain cleaner.
Call a plumber if: multiple drains are backing up at once, the clog keeps coming back after DIY attempts, water is backing up instead of draining, or you smell sewage near the drain.
A plunger and hot water solve maybe half of all clogs. The other half need tools most homeowners don't have — a proper drain snake, an auger, or diagnostic equipment. If you've tried the basics and the drain is still slow, call us before the problem gets worse.
For more on this decision, see our DIY vs professional drain cleaning guide.

Should You Use a Drain Cleaner Before Calling?
No. Chemical drain cleaners like Drano damage pipes, especially the older cast iron and galvanized lines common in Miami homes. They also rarely fix the actual problem. Most create a small channel through the clog rather than clearing it fully, so the blockage comes back, and now the pipe walls are weaker from the chemical exposure.
If you've already used a chemical cleaner and the drain is still clogged, tell us when you call. It changes how we approach clearing the line safely.

How to from Clogging
For more on maintenance timing, see our drain maintenance frequency guide.

Use drain screens
Catches hair and food debris before it enters the pipe. The cheapest prevention that works.

Skip the grease
Wipe pans into the trash instead of rinsing them down the sink.

Run hot water after kitchen use
Thirty seconds of hot water after washing dishes pushes grease residue further down the line before it can cool and stick.

Don't flush wet wipes
Even the ones labeled flushable. They don't break down the way toilet paper does.

Treat drains monthly.
Boiling water down each drain once a month, plus baking soda and vinegar for a deeper clean. Skip the chemical cleaners.

FAQs About Clogged Drain Repair
Why does my drain keep clogging?
Recurring clogs usually mean one of three things: the original blockage was never fully cleared, there's a structural problem inside the pipe like a crack or root intrusion, or a habit pouring grease down the sink, for example keeps reintroducing the clog. A camera inspection tells us which one you're dealing with.
Will hot water and dish soap unclog a drain?
Sometimes, for minor grease-based clogs that are still fairly fresh. Hot water and dish soap can soften grease enough to break it loose. It won't do much for hair clogs, solid blockages, or anything more than a few feet into the line. If it doesn't clear within a couple of tries, stop and call a professional instead of escalating to chemical drain cleaner.
How long does it take to unclog a drain?
Most single-fixture clogs clear in 20 to 45 minutes. Main line clogs typically take 1 to 2 hours. Severe blockages requiring hydro jetting or camera diagnostics can take up to 3 hours.
